Korean archery is a relatively new martial art outside of Korea, so most students of KTA begin their study in this category. The age of potential students covers a wide range, from junior high school students through to retired individuals. In one's initial lessons in Korean archery, it is common to make friendships with other archers of similar level, since a student can learn from a collegue or equal as easily and comfortably as from an archery master.

Regardless of an individual's previous experience with archery, or their physical strength, all students at KTA learn quickly that Korean archery requires more than just physical ability. In fact, much of what is taught to new students doesn't require the use of a bow at all! Beginner's curriculum covers (broadly), the following categories and subjects;

1. Korean archery etiquette

2. Basic Chinese Character reading

3. Safety training regarding archery practice

4. General Korean culture

5. General archery history
